About this artist

Killa Leaf

Matt Weston was born in Herts, UK and lived mostly in London and Birmingham where he was a bigtime punter in Drum & Bass and House scene. In 1998 he moved to Sydney Australia and after a couple of years orientation (or getting drunk with other backpackers) he started writing electronic music. His influences are mainly Electro, DnB and Dub. He is also a graphic artist and initially liked to write music much the same way he designed...colourful, with lots of layers.

Killa Leaf tracks get airplay on FBi Radio in Sydney and have been championed by a local artist Deepchild as 'sophisticated and sexy'. Matt says he plans to keep making music and is now moving toward the Dubstep style. As for the name Killa Leaf? Well, lets just say it goes with his obvious Dub-love!

VRB008 released: Bilbao by Killa Leaf

Killa Leaf

Bilbao is the product of the last 3 years work deep in Matt's airy Sydney bedroom. He says the tracks have been heavily influenced by the huge Sydney electro scene and also by breaks artists from both Australia and the UK. All tracks have been played on FBi Radio (Sydney 94.5FM). They have a distinct electro / dark / breaks feel that makes up the Killa Leaf sound.

Vocal samples on 'Shallow Grave' feature Elisa Lee, a local Sydney vocalist and Knives features Matt's own vocals.

A big fan of Ableton Live and Cubase, Matt prides himself on mashing together electronica with sampled guitar sounds and riffs he occassionally records.
